Fight the flu with ginger

GingerGinger is one of those wonderfully delicious spices that is super healthy. In fact, I’d say it’s a superfood in itself. Hubby and I can’t get enough of it. According to Chinese reports ginger is a perfect tonic to help fight influenza while an Indian report shows that it can increase the immune system’s ability to fight infection.
Ginger is full of goodness and helps with so many different ailments – nausea, loss of appetite, motion sickness, pain, inflammation. It also helps that it is yummy, right? I consumed bags of the stuff recently while my back was healing from a sacroiliac joint sprain.
With flu season looming (and from what I’ve read on FB today, already here!), ginger is THE ingredient to have stocked in your pantry and I’ve got the perfect drink to tempt your taste-buds.

Ingredients
Fresh Ginger
Lemon
Water
Honey

Grated-ginger
1. Grate the ginger into a saucepan. It really is up to you how much ginger you use, but the more, the better! For this large saucepan, I used several large pieces to get it spicy!

Boiling-ginger

3. Boil for five minutes.

Lemon

4. Turn off the heat and add several slices of lemon. Let is steep for an hour or so.

Sieve

5. Sieve the liquid into a large bowl/jug

Honey

6. Add a few tablespoons of honey

Ginger-Drink

7. Pour into bottles and refrigerate – this is also delicious hot too (especially if you have a cold).

And there you have it, a delicious ginger concoction to get you through flu season. What about you, do you have a go-to drink when you’re feeling under the weather? I’d love to hear about it, so please leave a comment below!
