BOOK REVIEW: Let’s Pretend This is Normal by Miriam Verheyden

Let's Pretend This is Normal

I received a copy of the book,  Let’s Pretend This is Normal by Miriam Verheyden, from the author in lieu of an honest and unbiased review…

Let’s Pretend This is Normal by Miriam Verheyden

Life after high school wasn’t at all how Miriam imagined it. Instead of having big plans and excitement for the future, she had no idea what she wanted to do with her life and struggled to find her purpose. When the man she thought would save her from herself married her sister, she traveled to the Wild West of Canada on a journey of selfdiscovery and found much more than she bargained for: she fell headoverheels in love with Richard, twentyfive years her senior and a father of four. When she introduced him to her shocked family, they tried to persuade her to leave him. Failing, they did the next best thing: they pretended it was normal. Let’s Pretend This Is Normal is a testament to what can happen when you listen to your heart instead of the opinions of others. This tale of romance and self discovery is proof that even if you have no idea what the hell you’re doing, with some patience and trust in yourself, you’ll figure it out.

My Review of Let’s Pretend This is Normal by Miriam Verheyden

I’ve never read an autobiography before. I know, I ought to be ashamed. I think I was meant to wait for the right one to come along. I’m so glad I did because this book was simply magical. Not in the true sense of the word, but in the sense that it made me appreciate life. Do you know what I mean? It was totally uplifting in so many ways.

Let’s start at the beginning. I’ve followed Miriam Verheyden on Instagram for some time now. I love her posts – she shares images of her doing yoga (and she’s way better at it than I am, and I’m supposed to be a teacher!) and of her amazing farm life in Western Canada. When I heard that she was also writing a book, I was a little in awe. Yes, I know I’m an author and have published quite a lot. But, well, there’s just something about Miriam that’s special. Speaking of which, I’ll be sharing a special interview with her very soon, so watch this space.

But back to the book

Miriam’s life story so far reads like something out of a film. One of her boyfriends leaving her and getting it on with her sister is just where it starts! She later meets a man who is quite a lot older than her… and it’s everything that happens before and in between that is simply beautifully written. When I agreed to review Miriam’s book, I was a little nervous to be honest with you. Miriam is originally from Germany and when she went to live in Canada, she barely spoke English! So imagine my surprise to read such an elegantly and well written book. Seriously, can this woman do no wrong? Clearly I ought to be starting a Miriam Verheyden appreciation society, shouldn’t I?

If you love intriguing biographies, love stories, stories to uplift you, then I urge you to get yourself a copy of Let’s Pretend This is Normal by Miriam Verheyden. You will not be disappointed. I am kinda hoping that in a few years time, Miriam will publish a follow up. And perhaps in the meantime, she might even write a few novels?

Like I said, stay tuned for a fabulous interview with the lovely lady herself.
