I’ve had the most wonderful time in Scotland and England

ScotlandAfter six weeks away on holiday, I’m finally home. I’ve had the most wonderful time in Scotland and England and think I actually left a little bit of my heart in that part of the world (Scotland).

Urquhart Castle, Scotland

It was the first time I’d ever visited and I was absolutely blown away by the place. It’s mind-blowingly beautiful – a bit like a smaller version of Canada (our other favourite place).

Holyrood Palace, Scotland

During the first week, we started at Inverness and then took in the sights of the west coast, spending New Year’s Eve in pure style at the Sheildaig Lodge which was absolutely incredible – like something out of an Agatha Christie novel (see Instagram, below). It was amazing.

We’ve visited castles, mountains (Ben Nevis too!), distilleries, and much more. Our second week was spent in a holiday cottage (a converted barn) in the lovely town of Auchterarder, perfectly situated an hour from Edinburgh or Glasgow, or closer to home, the lovely towns of Crieff and the city of Stirling. I could quite easily have stayed there for good. We even had good weather! Shocking right?

Edinburgh

Edinburgh was a definite highlight for me. We actually spent our very first night in Scotland there, but didn’t venture far from the B&B except to grab a bite to eat at a nearby restaurant. We returned for the day whilst staying at the Auchterarder cottage and loved it so much that we added a couple of extra nights to the end of our holiday! The Old Town, Edinburgh castle, the Royal Mile and Holyrood Palace were just some of the stunning places we took in. It really was a treat. We’d love to return in the summer and see the tattoo though.

Scotland

We travelled all over the place during our holiday, visiting friends and family. Sadly, we weren’t able to see some of them this time round. But that’s a difficult aspect of being an expat – whenever we visit the UK, we end up spending so much time visiting so many people that we run out of time. I wish it were different though.

Instagram

You might have seen some of my photos on Instagram while I was away, but if not I’ll share some of them here…
