Textures, fabric and fur

Meet Sarah. She’s one of the craziest, most eccentric people I know and she’s completely and utterly fabulous. We’ve been the best of friends for the past few years after being introduced by our mutual pal Eloise (who, sadly, left the Algarve for pastures new some time ago).
Sarah and I now get together for a ‘girls weekend’ (that’s not really a weekend, it’s just when she has her days off) once a month when we head out to the shops for a few hours, chatter away over coffee and cakes (yes, plural), head back to my place where we then proceed to watch movies (sci-fi or urban fantasy, preferably) and drink copious of amounts of wine before Michael returns from a hard day’s work to cook us dinner. Do we have it made or what?

Sarah promised to have us over to her place for dinner once the kitchen had been renovated and I must admit, I had no idea what to expect. Sarah’s taste is generally quite, well… mad, in the fun sense of the word. She’s not a quiet person and she loves crazy multi-coloured things, t-shirts with big pictures of animals or cartoon characters (she’s obsessed with the minions) on them and so on. Let’s face it, Sarah is totally kookie (and I love her for that!).

So imagine my surprise when we entered her little apartment to find a place totally at peace. Do you know what I mean? It’s one of those places that you just feel relaxed in, the moment you step in the door. Even though it’s full of different textures, fabric and fur, it’s still zen and perfect.
I love that she has clashing patterns, cute and quirky items she’s picked up over the years mixed with things from her childhood or perhaps things that remind her of childhood, teddy bears, fairy lights and lots and lots of Eastern-inspired pieces. Her personality just shines through in her decor and I wanted to share that with you. To show you that sometimes, you can add lots of different styles together to get perfection. And Sarah has done that.
