World domination at (nearly) 40

Suzy in a mud mask

The real Suzy Turner

Sometimes I wonder about what to write here on the blog. Are people bothered? Do they want to know who the real me is? Do they care? I mean, really? Who really cares about bloggers? The truth is, there’s shit loads of amazing bloggers out there who are getting millions of views per month and that’s amazing and yet there are some downright shitty blogs out there who are also getting millions of views per month (blah blah blah) but what about me? Well, although I’ve been blogging for over eight years, this lifestyle blog is pretty new and shiny (and fun and amazing, right?) and I have plans, you know? Plans for world domination. Bwahaahaahhaaa. Okay, so maybe world domination is a little too ambitious (or not). I’ll settle for a few million views every couple of months. Are you with me?

So what do I do? Do I continue to write about the stuff I love? Yeah I guess so. I love style – especially style for women over 30 or 40+. After all, that’s me now. I’ll be 40 in a few months and I’m STOKED about it. Seriously, I’ve been looking forward to my forties like, forever. My friends think I’m weird. Just like the time I told them I was going to stop dyeing my hair. Some of them freaked out. They just couldn’t understand why I would want to go grey naturally when I could hide it under all those chemicals! Well, duh! Grey is the new black (or whatever the saying is). A bit like 50 is the new 30, right? Who cares about ageing? We all have to do it, may as well accept that and be stylish and glam, naturally. That’s me anyway. That’s what I want. I want to grow old (really old) with my silvery hair my crowning glory. My dad has silvery hair and it’s fab. If I could wake up tomorrow with a head of white hair I’d be over the moon. Hubby would be in for a bit of a shock though but, hey, c’est la vie. Once I’d decided to go grey (well, silver), I chopped off all my hair. It felt amazing.

But it’s not just style that I’m into, I also love to learn about (affordable) beauty products and natural stuff I can slap on my face and be beautiful. I mean, have you ever tried coconut oil as a moisturiser or hair mask? It’s freakin’ incredible! Or drinking shit loads of my yummy ginger concoction. Or sipping apple cider vinegar mixed with honey and water. It’s super good for you. Hubby is a health freak and it rubs off (a little bit) on me. I still use regular stuff too… I’m not that much of a health nut. Like the time ( a few weeks back) when I used a mud mask on my face and couldn’t move a muscle, literally. It scared the life outta me. I had to get that gunk off me after ten minutes (I was aiming for 30). That was some scary shit right there!

Suzy-at-Harry-Potter-World-2I’m also a keen traveller – although I don’t get to do it anywhere near as much as I’d like. Canada is one of my all-time favourite destinations, followed by the good old U S of A and England, my birth country which I adore and miss way too much (I mean, have you ever been there? It’s stunning – all that green, coz of the rain no doubt and the beautiful old castles, cathedrals and pretty quirky villages… sigh). One day I’d like to own a house there (and maybe a log home in Canada too). Our most recent holiday was to the east coast of USA – Washington DC and south. We ended up in Florida and I’m such a goofball that I actually cried (with tears and everything) upon entering the Wizarding World of Harry Potter. That’s the real me. I was like a kid in a sweet shop. It was absolute heaven. Maybe that’s why I love being this age – because I’m still a total kid, and yet now I can afford to do all this stuff, buy nice things and be wise at the same time. Well… kinda.

There’s so much I want to write about, and share my absolute joy for being alive on this incredible planet and the little corner I call home. Oh, you don’t know where that is, do you? Well, it’s a relatively small place called the Algarve – the southernmost region of Portugal. It’s a pretty cool place to live and I’m very fortunate to be able to call it home. I also want to share what it’s really like to live here and so I hope you’ll join me for the ride.

But back to world domination. That’s what I’m after. Perhaps I just need a few more visitors to the blog, a few more book sales and a bit of advertising? That’s all I need, right? Well, that’s what I’m aiming for. I’ve always been an ambitious and positive person and I know that I will get what I want. It’s written in the stars and I’m reaching for them!
