Life after the fires: things are returning to normal…for us anyway

Life after the fires

After a horrendous week last week, things are back to normal. Well, they’re back to normal for hubby and I. Sadly, not so for all the people who lost their homes and businesses in the fires. After my post last Monday, the fires raged even more, devastating much of the Monchique hills before further ravaging much of the countryside near Silves.

Appearing on Good Morning Britain

It was scary and surreal to see such devastation so close to home. You might have seen me on UK TV mid week? I was interviewed for ITV’s Good Morning Britain, although much of my clip was cut very short – focussing on the fact that I have a pair of binoculars! But it was an experience. The second experience that I’ve been on ITV, actually. About twelve years ago, my Dad and I were interviewed for their Calendar show. I must admit to have had verbal diarrhoea at the time – much to my embarrassment. I wasn’t much better last week either, to be honest. You can see the clip on Twitter below:

For most of last week, ash was all over the place – in the pool, on every terrace, in the house all over the furniture. But that’s life after the fires, nothing compared to what so many others must’ve been dealing with. I’m just glad it’s all over, so all of those poor people can start rebuilding their lives.

Life after the fires: back to normal

But, like I said, things are back to normal for us now. And so, here I am with a very simple outfit for the hot weather. Although, I admit to feeling silly talking about clothes – it just seems so trivial after what’s happened πŸ™ but that’s life, I guess.

Our close friends and neighbours came over for a bite to eat, so simplicity was the key. I tend to avoid necklaces and watches when I’m too hot – I find them quite irritating at times.

As I was deciding what to wear, I had one of those moments where everything I put on looked awful. You know those moments, don’t you? They happen every once in a while, and I’ve no idea why. Is it hormones? Perhaps.

Fortunately though, white linen trousers and a plain fuchsia pink top from Zara seemed to make me feel alright, so that’s what I settled on. The tan shoes were from Massimo Dutti several years ago, but they didn’t last long on my feet. After our guests arrived, I had to kick them off. I just wasn’t comfortable in heels that night! We ended up having a lovely evening though, sitting outdoors by the pool and eating the most delicious ribs that hubby cooked (several hours slowly in the oven followed by a stint on the barbecue…. mmmmmmmm) and chatting until almost midnight.Β It really was the perfect evening after everything that happened the week before.
