When I think about The X Files, a rush of nostalgia hits me. I used to love that show. There was a certain magic about eagerly awaiting each new episode, back in the days when we couldn’t binge-watch things at the click of a button. We had to wait for it to come on TV—and let me tell you, the wait felt like a lifetime. The show was an absolute phenomenon, and it captivated audiences worldwide. And the best part? It wasn’t just about aliens or creepy creatures—it was about the unknown, the unexplainable, and the thrilling mysteries that could be right under our noses.

Mulder and Scully were an iconic duo. The chemistry between David Duchovny (Mulder) and Gillian Anderson (Scully) was undeniable, and their quest to uncover the truth behind government conspiracies, alien abductions, and supernatural phenomena made for a thrilling ride. In fact, The X Files became such a pop culture staple that we even named two of our cats after them. We had Mulder and Scully—because, let’s be honest, the two characters were so inseparable, it felt right to share that bond with our pets.
Sadly, Mulder went missing some years ago (hopefully, he found a new home, or maybe he was abducted by aliens?!) and Scully, well, she had a lovely life with us before passing away a few years ago. But to this day, I still remember those two names with affection.

What was so magnetic about The X Files was its exploration of both the tangible and the intangible. It delved into the paranormal, and it touched on the idea of xenogenesis, the theory of life originating from other worlds or planets—something that felt so far-fetched yet somehow possible within the context of the show. Alien life, extraterrestrial intelligence, and intergalactic phenomena—it was all there. And let’s face it, the idea of otherworldly beings choosing to visit Earth and leave their mark on humanity is deeply fascinating. Some episodes made you question everything we thought we knew about life beyond our planet. Could aliens really be out there? Could we be the product of some cosmic experiment? The X Files always kept us on our toes.
The series was a worldwide sensation. It was hugely popular, and the “I Want to Believe” tagline became iconic. And, let’s not forget the cultural impact of Gillian Anderson. She didn’t just play Scully—she became Scully. She was hailed as a sex symbol, with magazines (like that one British lads’ magazine) even naming her the “Sexiest Woman” in the ’90s. I’ll admit, I was one of those fans who couldn’t get enough of Scully’s wit, her strength, and her willingness to dive into the unknown, while still maintaining a sense of grounded, logical reasoning.

I have fond memories of watching The X Files in its prime, and when the movies came out—The X Files: Fight the Future (1998) and The X Files: I Want to Believe (2008)—they were event films. The series might have ended in 2002, but in 2016 and 2018, we got a reboot, and though the new episodes didn’t have the same magic, the nostalgia was still there, pulling us back into the eerie, alien-filled world.
Today, The X Files is considered a cult classic. It paved the way for many other supernatural shows that followed, and its influence is still felt in the world of TV and film. Even now, you’ll find people quoting the show, wearing I Want to Believe T-shirts, and diving into the weird and strange phenomena that made Mulder and Scully such a beloved pair. It’s a series that will never truly go away, a testament to how deeply it resonated with its audience.
I still enjoy watching The X Files episodes now, and they always intrigue me just as much as they did back then. The blend of mystery, paranormal encounters, and Mulder’s relentless quest for the truth never gets old. And I have to admit, I still think Mulder is cute! There’s something timeless about the dynamic between Mulder and Scully, and no matter how many times I rewatch, it still pulls me in
To this day, it still fascinates me how something as otherworldly as The X Files can feel so close to home. We may never know the truth, but as Mulder always said, “The truth is out there.”
Xena Warrior Princess

And while The X-Files had me hooked with its alien conspiracies and paranormal mysteries, there was another show that had a similar effect on me—Xena: Warrior Princess. I still remember the excitement of watching it back in the day, feeling totally transported into a world of myth, magic, and adventure. It’s one of those shows that I can’t help but mention, because it was such a massive part of my TV-watching experience!

Xena: Warrior Princess was my ultimate TV obsession! I used to completely lose myself in the adventures, watching her battle her way through challenges with her sword, her iconic battle cry, and that warrior spirit. I wanted to be her—she was tough, beautiful, and unapologetically strong. Her character was everything I admired, and I loved how she evolved throughout the series, from a villain to a hero. Plus, that bond with her sidekick Gabrielle—who was like the voice of reason but also so much more—was what made the show even more captivating. I used to watch every episode, totally swept up in her journey.

Michael, on the other hand, used to laugh at me for watching it. He thought it was a bit silly, and honestly, I can totally see his point now when I re-watch the show. It’s a bit over-the-top, some of the storylines are cheesy, and the special effects… well, they haven’t aged all that well! But, despite all that, I can’t help but still love it. There’s something so captivating about Xena—she was ahead of her time, in a way, showing women in power, standing up for what was right, and always fighting for the underdog.
Even now, when I put an episode on, I get lost in the nostalgia, and I’m always ready to hear that battle cry once again. No matter how cheesy or outdated some parts may seem, Xena: Warrior Princess will always have a special place in my heart! Have you been following my A to Z Blogging Challenge this year?
