After sharing my absolute love for that Strange New Worlds episode where Spock unexpectedly discovers his humanity, something lovely happened. My blogging friend Marsha popped up in the comments, clearly just as obsessed, sharing her own love for Star Trek in general… and casually mentioning another favourite episode of hers.
Naturally, I took this as a sign from the universe.
Fast forward to now: I’m literally watching that episode as I type this, and I am grinning. This one’s a few episodes on and — without giving anything away — it’s the musical episode. Yes. A full-on, characters-burst-into-song, commit-to-the-bit musical episode. And it is so good.
What I love about Star Trek Strange New Worlds is that it’s brave enough to do this. It leans fully into joy and creativity and says, “Why not?” Instead of feeling gimmicky, it feels heartfelt and fun and surprisingly moving. The songs aren’t just there for laughs — they actually land emotionally, which honestly caught me off guard.

And can we talk about Lieutenant Uhura for a moment? When she sings… goosebumps. The good kind. The kind that makes you pause and think, oh, this is why I love TV. It’s beautiful, powerful, and perfectly her. I wasn’t expecting to feel quite so much, but there I was, completely sold. And then of course, there’s the Klingons! OMG…I’m not going to say any more than that though lol!
This is exactly why I love sci-fi like this. It gives us permission to be playful, emotional, ridiculous, and sincere all at once. One episode can make you laugh out loud, the next can make you feel something deep in your chest — and sometimes it does both at the same time.
So thank you, Marsha, for the nudge. You were absolutely right. And if this keeps up, I may never emotionally recover from this Star Trek season — but in the best possible way.
