It’s time for another Style Imitating Art (SIA) challenge! This week’s art inspiration, chosen by Marsha, is Hilma af Klint’s The Ten Largest, No. 7 — a wonderfully vibrant and abstract piece that’s full of movement, colour, and spiritual energy.
If you’re new to SIA, it’s a bi-monthly style challenge where we create outfits inspired by a piece of art. It’s always so much fun — and a great excuse to play dress-up while stretching our creativity! Style Imitating Art’s hosts are Shelbee, Salazar and Marsha.

I used to take part regularly, but with the house move and then living somewhere that made taking decent outfit photos a bit of a nightmare, I ended up taking a year (or so) off. Recently though, I’ve jumped back in — and honestly, I’m loving it all over again. It’s made me see my wardrobe in a totally new light. Instead of just reaching for the same few pieces, I’m actually looking at my clothes differently — thinking about colour, texture, and how they make me feel. It’s such a lovely reminder that fashion really is another form of art.
The last challenge was probably my favourite so far. The artwork was Tying Her Shoe by Walter Westley Russell, and I got properly creative with that one! It was such a beautiful, romantic piece to draw inspiration from.

Hilma af Klint’s The Ten Largest, No. 7, on the other hand, was quite abstract — which, I’ll admit, didn’t instantly spark ideas in the same way. But that’s the beauty of these challenges: they push you to find inspiration where you might not expect it.

The artwork has these gorgeous, earthy yet joyful colours, and I think that’s what led me to this outfit. I ended up in a green pleated skirt paired with a colourful crochet poncho and my brown floral cowboy boots (all from Vinted!), as well as an orange v-neck tee. It wasn’t intentional, but the end result gave off a bit of a boho-country vibe — like I might have wandered out of a music festival somewhere in rural Portugal! Ideally, I would have chosen something bold in mustard yellow but my wardrobe just wasn’t giving me that…so I threw my hair up in two very messy buns and used yellow scrunchies to tie them. I figured I would wear some yellow jewellery as well, but it turns out the only yellow jewellery I have is this little necklace which is difficult to see with the poncho, never mind.

Even though it’s not what I originally had in mind, I actually quite like how it came together. Sometimes the best looks are the ones that happen by accident, right?

What do you think of my outfit inspired by Hilma af Klint’s The Ten Largest, No. 7 ? How would you style this artwork? Don’t forget to go and visit Shelbee, Salazar and Marsha to see how they tackled this week’s challenge!
