Pink and black houndstooth: dresses with jeans… again!

I’ve worn this pink and black houndstooth outfit three times in the past two weeks – purely because I wanted to get photos. But each time something happened to prevent that from happening. Well, the first two times anyway. Finally, this weekend we had sufficient time to actually take a few shots of what I was wearing!

I love this pink and black houndstooth dress. I bought it in the sales years ago from H&M and it cost me next to nothing. I’ve long been a fan of the houndstooth (or dogtooth – both the same) print and I used to own a cute little black and white top with the same pattern. I’ve since passed it on to a friend though and she wears it a lot now too. It’s one of those timeless prints that never goes out of style.

This particular dress is probably a teeny weenie bit on the small side. It’s an XS and ought to hang more like a shift dress, but instead it’s a little snug on the hips. But I don’t mind that because I love it so much! And, I guess it’s not THAT small considering I am able to wear a pair of skinny jeans beneath it, right?! Speaking of skinny jeans, I’ve talked about jeans and dresses a lot in the past. It’s one of those looks that I simply adore. Not purely because it can hide a multitude of sins (!), but also just because I think it looks pretty cool – even long dresses can look fabulous with jeans peeking out the bottom!

On this occasion (and the past two!), I had to wear a long sleeved tee beneath the pink and black houndstooth dress as well. Again, not just because I like the way it looks, but because it was a tad chilly and I needed something extra to keep my arms warm. (This top isn’t just an ordinary tee though. It’s a sparkly long sleeved thermal top that I bought from Marks & Spencer’s for my holiday.) Actually, I ended up also taking a thin black snood with me, as well as a black cardigan and I wore them both, along with a winter coat on Saturday night because it was chilly where we were.

I wore my favourite black ankle boots from Aldo, as well as this black choker that I bought from Bijou Brigitte in the Aqua shopping centre (here in the Algarve). Sadly, Bijou closed down in that location which is a such a bummer because it was a favourite. I think my earrings came from H&M a long time ago too. As for the gorgeous rock chick ring, it was another gift from my mother-in-law and I absolutely adore it. It’s very ‘me’ 🙂 And so is the Desigual handbag that I bought for a steal in the recent sales!

I also wore my beautiful black Citizen watch which Michael surprised me with when we were in Times Square in New York in January. He bought it for me from the Citizen shop right on Times Square. It was very romantic. Isn’t it divine? Sorry about this picture. Not the best. Here’s one from my Instagram just after he bought it…

Jazz was Adegas

But back to Saturday night. We went to a fabulous event at the Capela Das Artes in Alcantarilha. It was a jazz concert and wine tasting event in one. Now I know what you’re thinking. “She doesn’t drink anymore”. And you’d be quite right. However, I did taste the rosé and the red wine and then gave the remainder to my friends. It was quite delicious but I just didn’t want to drink it. If you are a wine drinker though, I highly recommend you give it a try. It’s a local wine made in Silves, called Malaca.

The jazz was absolutely wonderful. It was a group called Miss Manouche and they played jazz from the 1920s / 1930s which was such a beautiful decade when it comes to music. Here they are on YouTube:

Such beautiful sounds, wouldn’t you agree? The event was part of this winter season’s Jazz nas Adegas (Jazz in the wineries). We had such a good time that we’ll hopefully be attending more of their events when they start again next year. Perhaps then I’ll remember to take my camera with me!
