Simple Shortcuts to Get Started in the Wellness Industry

The wellness industry is about to explode as demand and interest increases. It’s been on an upward track for the last twenty years, but the sector is looking like it is going to accelerate again, due to general interest.

But what shortcuts are there that you can take to get into this industry as an entrepreneur? Here’s what you need to know:

Provide Solo Services in the Wellness Industry With Minimal Setup

One thing you could look at is whether you could provide solo services with minimal setup. You could leverage online or at-home tools to offer something that you can sell for a premium online.

Most people go for private practice coaching. These are easy to set up, especially if you have an audience already, and there are plenty of tools around that facilitate this sort of work. For example, you can set up on social media and then leave links to Calendly below your content where customers can simply book sessions with you.

Another option in the same category but potentially with less competition is to set up a mobile service. The idea here is to travel around your town or city offering services to local people. The margins and the prices you can charge for these services tend to be higher, especially if there’s no competition in the local area for what you do.

I actually trained as a yoga teacher ten years ago and gave a few classes to test the waters. It was such a lovely experience — helping people slow down, breathe and reconnect — but ultimately, I realised it wasn’t quite for me. Still, if you’ve ever thought about teaching yoga or meditation, it’s a brilliant way to dip your toe into the wellness world. You can start small, offer classes in your local community, or even online from home. The beauty of it is that you don’t need a massive budget — just passion, a mat, and a good playlist!

Use Funding Hacks To Start Your Venture

If you don’t have a lot of savings, you could also look into using funding hacks to get the money you need to begin. Many people wanting to get into the wellness industry literally use Kickstarter to get the money they need, often supported by local people who’d like to benefit from their services.

If this sounds like you, you probably wouldn’t need a lot. A small amount of money is usually all you need.

Start Dropshipping Products

Another option is to start drop shipping CBD products. These are high-margins, but you don’t have to worry about anything other than marketing. The logistics and backend is all taken care of by third parties.

Dropshipping is usually something you can start immediately as well. There are so many programs available these days, and most companies and services will only charge you money relating to the profits you make. If you aren’t making sales, you usually won’t pay.

Once you start dropshipping, the money you can accumulate essentially depends on the quality of your marketing. If you learn how to do it well, you can often make a lot of money in a short space of time.

Personally, if I were starting something new right now, I’d seriously consider the CBD route. I’ve used CBD myself and I genuinely believe in the product — it’s one of those natural tools that can make such a difference to people’s wellbeing, whether it’s for beauty, anxiety, sleep or pain relief. And the best part? You can create an entire ethical brand around it, something that truly helps others.

Franchise Or Partner

You can also look into franchising or partnering with other businesses. Again, this is a lower-cost way to get into the wellness industry (although it will still require a significant capital investment in some cases).

For example, you can usually become a franchisee of a gym studio or dance space for around $25,000. Once you pay the fee, you’re free to generate profits and tap into an existing business model that really works.

You can also look at becoming an affiliate. If you don’t want to build a product yourself but would much prefer to sell one instead, then these approaches can really work. All you do is create content and then provide links that forward prospects to the products that they want to buy. You’ll get a commission if they eventually decide to buy.

Start A Podcast

Starting a podcast is another shortcut into the wellness space. If you can provide audiences with new angles and takes, you will often go a long way.

Most creators now use podcasts like WordPress and Substack. These provide all the tools required to get set up. Then, all you need to do is keep posting consistently and find something that your audience is really going to enjoy.

Sell Digital Products

If you’re a creative type, then you might want to look into selling digital products. Again, these are free to produce at the margin and range in price from $10 to $50 (for the niche).

However, what you ultimately charge really depends on the amount of value you offer and whether your customers can get something better for less elsewhere. Many people sell courses and options for thousands of dollars.

This is the route I know best — publishing. I’ve self-published over 13 novels since 2009 and, honestly, it’s one of the most rewarding things I’ve ever done. But I won’t sugar-coat it: it’s also one of the hardest! Selling books is tough work, and while I barely make any money from it each month, the creative fulfilment is priceless. If writing or creating digital products is your thing, do it for love first. The rest will follow in its own time.

I’m also working on something really exciting at the moment — my first non-fiction book! It’s connected to the wellness world, spirituality, and personal growth (all the things I’m so passionate about), and I’ve got a really good feeling about it. It’s still in the works right now, but I’ll be sharing more about it once I’m closer to publication. Fingers crossed this one finds its audience!

Instructor

Finally, you could look into becoming an instructor of some kind. Wellness coaching, like yoga or nutrition, usually only requires a few months of training to get right. Then you simply set up your site and sales tools, and tell your audience that you have the right qualifications.
