Just because you’ve made your bed doesn’t mean you have to lie in it.

No matter what age you are, change can be scary – whether or not it is your choice to follow an unknown path.
I’d always dreamed of being an actress, but my sensible side took control, and I ended up at university, teaching English abroad and finally working for an airline.
Simon, a dear friend and cancer survivor, had always encouraged me to follow my acting dream before it was too late. With a mortgage, car loan and credit cards to pay, I told him that ship had sailed.
When he ironically drowned in a windsurfing accident, his words suddenly held new meaning for me. Without a backward glance, I sold my flat, my car, paid off my credit cards and went to drama school.
That was 25 years ago, and though it’s been tough at times, I have never regretted my life-changing decision. The experiences I have had, the people I have met and the unexpected opportunities that have come my way have enriched my life more than I could ever have imagined.
Do I regret not taking the plunge sooner? No. Being older has given me Iife experience to bring to my acting and my writing, as well as the ability to deal with the rejection that these professions bring.
To anyone with a dream, I say don’t let age, fear, negative thoughts or comments stand in your way. Listen to your inner voice, believe in yourself and make it happen.

Our doubts are traitors, and make us lose the good we oft might win, for fearing to attempt.

My Review of The Start of Something Wonderful

This was one of the best chick lit books I’ve read for a long while. It had me desperate to know what was going to happen and I could so easy visualise it in my mind’s eye. The different places the character visits, where she worked – the disastrous work locations, and more – all stood out for me which was fantastic.
I must say I’d love to see this book made into a movie – I think it would be brilliant, not to mention hilarious. The main character certainly gets up to all kinds of humorous situations which would transfer so well to the screen. Think Bridget Jones meets the Shopaholic! It would be fantastic!
Needless to say, I absolutely loved this book. Five stars from me!
