Chinos – the perfect trousers for dressing up or dressing down, don’t you think? The weather is slowly warming up here in the Algarve. Although, as I write this, it’s very grey and has been pouring with rain today. Two days ago though, I was out in the garden with my shorts on working on getting a little colour on my legs! Apparently there will be a little more rain over the next week or so but the summer is definitely… Read more »

Red, white and black

Red, white and black, colours that just seem to work together, right? Especially when the majority of an outfit is black and white and you just add a hint of red – like a cardigan, a handbag, a lipstick or a pair of shoes. Red, white and black – it just sounds right too! When friends suggested we head out for a meal, we thought it would be great to lift our spirits a little (see last paragraph). We went to… Read more »

For a casual Sunday out, I chose to wear another of my favourite colours: grey. It’s one of those colours that flatters many a skin tone, especially as you get older. I’ve always loved to wear varying shades of the same colour in one outfit and this was such an outfit.   Various shades of grey The grey cargo pants were a pair I bought from H&M a year or so ago. Although they’re super comfortable they do tend to crease a… Read more »

Fifty Shades of Khaki

I’m sure most readers will be fully aware of my obsession love for all things khaki (see here, here and here, for example). I just can’t get enough of it. When I find a colour I love, one of my favourite ways of wearing it, is to wear several different shades of it – hence the fifty shades of khaki 😉 Fifty shades of khaki If I’d owned a pair of khaki jeans, I would most definitely have worn them… Read more »

black ensemble

Yesterday we went for a long drive to the small town of Rogil on the Algarve’s west coast. The purpose of the trip? To visit a favourite cafe where they make the most delicious cakes. Stupidly, I neglected to take photos of said cakes so you’ll have to do with me strolling along the beach side in a black ensemble instead 😉 On the way home, we made a quick pit stop down a long and winding road which culminates at the beautiful… Read more »

Some days things just all seem to come together, leaving you feeling really good about yourself. And this occasion was one of those days for me. Perhaps it’s because I was wearing one of my favourite combinations: jeans and dresses (like here and here, for example). My growing-out-in-between-usually-a total-mess hair was actually looking good and glossy (yay for hair straighteners). Even my silver streak was behaving itself… And my choice of clothes made me feel like a strong and confident woman. Or maybe it’s simply because… Read more »

There are times in life when all you need is a slouchy shirt. One you can wear with jeans and pumps and just be comfy, while still looking a little stylish. This slouchy shirt is one of my summer’s best buys – it was an absolute bargain in the sales. I think I paid 3 euros for it!   I love the thinness (can you say that?!) of the fabric, which makes it perfect for a warm summer’s day, especially one when… Read more »

Dressing for the bloat

I’ve talked before about how difficult it can be to dress for the intense summer heat, but on this occasion not only was I dressing for the heat, but I was also dressing for the bloat! I often suffer with a bloated tummy, and it can be so difficult trying to find something comfortable enough that also hides a stomach that’s sticking out. Okay, perhaps I also suffer a little bit with paranoia (or body dysmorphia as Michael keeps telling me)…. Read more »

Denim on denim – you either love it or hate it. I happen to love it (most of the time) probably because I happen to be in love with denim. I’m a massive fan of jeans (which, I’m sure you’ve noticed by now). I love how versatile a great pair of jeans can be. You can dress them up or dress them down yet you’ll always be comfortable. And comfort is something that is really important to me. Denim on denim is… Read more »

Living in the Algarve, I must admit to struggling with dressing for the intense summer heat. On days in July and August, the summer heat can reach (and occasionally exceeds) 40ºC. And that’s seriously hot! Although I’ve lived here 30 years (exactly 30 years last month in fact), I’ve never quite come to terms with the Algarve summer heat. My body seems to heat up and stays hot like hell all the time. Basically I’m a wreck unless a) I’m indoors… Read more »
