It's been a tough weekend here in the Algarve, and an outfit from cooler days

It’s been a tough weekend here in the Algarve. Not only have we had record high temperatures, but there’s also been more horrendous fires not far from where I live (in the foothills of the Monchique mountains). The town of Monchique itself, was evacuated last night. One of my close friends was also evacuated which must have been terrifying. We watched, helplessly, from our bedroom terrace last night as the flames continued to devour the land. See the photo (above). If you look closely, you’ll see the flames. It seems that the world is on fire doesn’t it? It’s incredibly scary, and my heart goes out to all the people, and animals, affected by it.

Like I said, it’s been a tough weekend. At the moment we’re sleeping with the air conditioning on (it’s a must). Friday was crazy hot, but when I opened the bedroom window on Saturday morning, I’d never felt heat like it. It was literally like stepping into a furnace. Having that kind of heat at 8am is just unheard of (and so unpleasant). It was absolutely horrendous. I’ve probably mentioned once or twice before, that I do not function well in the heat. I much (much!) prefer cold weather to hot. My body’s thermostat still works better when we’re in the UK (even after 32 years of living abroad!). I do admit to becoming a little grumpy when it’s this hot too!

Usually, I would share an outfit that I’d worn at the weekend, but it was just too hot to wear much at all! So, here is an outfit from a couple of weeks ago when the weather was quite a bit cooler. So cool, in fact, that I was able to wear skinny jeans! Oh how I wish it was cool like that now. All I can say is, thank goodness for the swimming pool. Our tough weekend would have been absolute hell without it, I think :/

But back to my outfit. Remember I went shopping a few weeks ago? Well, this is one of the other things I bought from Desigual. If you’re a regular reader, you’ll know that I do love to wear things that are floaty around my middle (mainly due to my IBS flare-ups), and this top completely fits the bill. It’s got a bit of sparkle too, which is always a good thing in my book 😉

The skinny jeans are from Salsa, which is hubby’s favourite place to buy jeans. They are a bit pricey (probably around 70/80 euros for a pair), but they do fit beautifully. I particularly love their higher waisted jeans which fit my figure much better than lower ones.

These fabulous shoes came from Pull & Bear in the sale a couple of years ago. They’re the most beautiful midnight blue velvet. They’re a tad high so I can’t walk too far in them lol, but I just adore them! They go great with the jeans too, don’t they?

Also from Desigual, is the handbag but I don’t need to tell you about that, do I? Mainly because it’s been featured on the blog LOADS of times already! Can you tell I love it? I also LOVE this ring, which was a gift from hubby a few years ago for our wedding anniversary. He bought it from Swarovski. Isn’t it divine? Unfortunately, I can’t wear it in this heat because all my fingers swell up! Nice huh?

Speaking of swelling up, as I write this, our tough weekend may well become a tough week. It’s getting super hot again and my ankles feel a bit swollen too now 🙁 Urgh. Unfortunately we’ve only got air conditioning in our bedroom – not the entire house. We haven’t really needed it before now! I think perhaps it’s time for a dip in the pool to cool down. And then I might position myself in front of the fan for a while!!!

I hope you’re all coping alright in the heat – I realise it is crazy hot almost everywhere at the moment. Let’s hope it cools down soon enough. Hugs.
