Songful Style: A Thousand Years by Christina Perri

Welcome to the September edition of Songful Style! Hosted by myself, Shelbee (Shelbee on the Edge) and Marsha (Marsha in the Middle), Songful Style is a collaboration featuring outfits inspired by songs. We’re also inviting anyone who would like to join us to post their own outfits in the link-up below. It doesn’t matter from what angle the song inspires the outfit—it can be from the lyrics, the title, the tune itself, the album cover, or even the music video. Last month, our song was Heart of Glass chosen by Marsha. This month, our Songful Style song was chosen by me, and it is A Thousand Years by Christina Perri (scroll right down to the bottom to read the lyrics).

First things first, if you’re a fan of the Twilight series like I am, you know that the movies and books have a special place in our hearts. I recently found myself immersed in the world of vampires, werewolves, and a timeless love story all over again when Michael was away for a few days, and I decided to binge watch the entire series of movies! What better way to spend those nights, right?

So, it’s no surprise that when it came time to choose a song for our Songful Style challenge, “A Thousand Years” was a no-brainer. It’s a hauntingly beautiful track that perfectly captures the essence of the love story between Bella and Edward. The lyrics, the melody, everything about it just oozes romance and longing. Plus, it has become one of Michael’s and my own ‘songs’—you know the ones, whenever it comes on, we share one of those looks (cue heart emoji).

The Eeriness of the Blue

Now, let’s dive into the outfit. I decided to wear a long, flowy blue dress for this challenge. The dress, which I got from Massimo Dutti nearly a decade ago (yes, you read that right!), has a certain vintage charm to it. I’ve actually never worn it apart from in blog photos, and as fate would have it, it’s a tad too small for me now. But it still holds a special place in my wardrobe and I’ll keep it as long as I get it on lol!

The reason I chose this dress is because of the beautiful, eerie blue tinge in the “A Thousand Years” official music video. That blue hue really spoke to me, and I wanted to recreate that ethereal vibe. Plus, I couldn’t resist adding a little touch of vampire-inspired style to the outfit with the black butterfly earrings and gothic inspired bracelet and ring. After all, it wouldn’t be Twilight without a hint of the supernatural. I added some blue eye makeup too!

About “A Thousand Years”

For those of you who might not be familiar with the song, “A Thousand Years” by Christina Perri is from the Twilight movies, specifically “Breaking Dawn.” It’s a song that encapsulates the enduring love between Bella and Edward, one that transcends time and circumstances. Christina Perri’s hauntingly beautiful voice and the song’s poignant lyrics make it an unforgettable part of the Twilight soundtrack.

And speaking of the Twilight series, the books are just as captivating as the movies. The story of Bella, Edward, and Jacob has captured the imaginations of fans around the world, and it’s easy to see why.

So, there you have it! My Songful Style outfit inspired by “A Thousand Years” and Twilight. It’s a little piece of my own vampire romance, brought to life through fashion. I hope you enjoyed this post as much as I enjoyed creating it—because it’s been a while since I got a bit more creative with my self portraits!

Did you join us for this ethereal style challenge? If so (and even if you didn’t but you have a great post to add), please add your links to the link-up below! And in the meantime, get ready for next month’s challenge when Shelbee has chosen another beautiful and meaningful song, Meet Virginia by Train.

A Thousand Years – Lyrics

The day we met
Frozen I held my breath
Right from the start
I knew that I’d found a home for my heart

Beats fast
Colors and promises
How to be brave?
How can I love when I’m afraid to fall?
But watching you stand alone
All of my doubt suddenly goes away somehow

One step closer

I have died everyday waiting for you
Darling, don’t be afraid, I have loved you for a thousand years
I’ll love you for a thousand more

Time stands still
Beauty in all she is
I will be brave
I will not let anything take away
What’s standing in front of me
Every breath, every hour has come to this

One step closer

I have died everyday waiting for you
Darling, don’t be afraid, I have loved you for a thousand years
I’ll love you for a thousand more

And all along I believed I would find you
Time has brought your heart to me
I have loved you for a thousand years
I’ll love you for a thousand more

Ooh-ooh
Ooh-ooh
I love you for a thousand more
Ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh, ooh-ooh-ooh
Ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh

One step closer

I have died everyday waiting for you
Darling, don’t be afraid, I have loved you for a thousand years
I’ll love you for a thousand more

And all along I believed I would find you
Time has brought your heart to me
I have loved you for a thousand years
I’ll love you for a thousand more
