The Blank Podcast people are going to release a book!

I love listening to podcasts, do you? My favourite are the ones related to indie publishing, writing, witchcraft, alternative health and spirituality. I’ve got quite a few I subscribe to (and obsess over lol) and love to listen to whilst walking the dog in the mornings or if I’m driving anywhere (not that I drive anywhere further than my local shopping centre lately).

My favourite episodes

One that always cheers me up is the Blank Podcast—it’s a bit different from the norm in that the hosts interview a selection of well-known figures from all over the place. Some of my favourite episodes are the interviews they did with actors Rufus Sewell (who I’ve always had a bit of a crush on, tbh) and David Harbour (the strangely swoon-worthy cop in Stranger Things). But the hosts have chatted with so many other amazing people, including Ed Byrne, Sir Nick Faldo, Dawn French, John Bradley (Samwell Tarly in GoT), Dame Kelly Holmes, Evanna Lynch (Luna Lovegood in Harry Potter), Wim Hof (dubbed the Iceman), Angela Scanlon, Lorraine Kelly, Nicky Campbell and so many more.

Even more exciting news is that the Blank Podcast people have just announced that they’re going to be releasing a book! Here’s the press release about the upcoming project…

Quadrille to publish book from popular Blank podcast

Blank PodcastQuadrille has acquired the companion book to hit podcast Blank by writer Giles Paley-Phillips and comedian Jim Daly, detailing the journey through blankness and all the various aspects of going ‘blank’ – those moments when things just aren’t going right.

The informal and insightful podcast series, hosted by Paley-Phillips and Daly, delves into those moments when we falter and fail and what we can learn from them, featuring interviews with guests such as Louis Theroux, Caroline Lucas, Reginald D Hunter, Jon Ronson, and Dawn French.

The Blank book will feature hand-picked advice and anecdotes from the podcast, looking at the common experiences and lessons encountered by well-known people from comedy, acting, broadcasting, politics and sports and how they get through those off-plan moments. Topics range from Public Failure and Imposter Syndrome to Parenting, Creativity and Social Anxiety.

Lindsay Literary Agency

Senior Commissioning Editor Céline Hughes bought world rights from Becky Bagnell at Lindsay Literary Agency. Hughes said: “Especially in 2020, it’s a real tonic to tune in to podcasts – and none more so than Blank. With their friendly banter, stellar guests and insights into blank moments, Giles and Jim untangle those difficult moments we all have when we stall, publicly or privately. The book is a foray into their and their guests’ experiences and an attempt to extract some meaning and comfort. Throughout the book is the important message that talking and connecting are crucial to overcoming obstacles and that blankness can be filled with opportunity.”

The Blank podcast started in 2018 as the result of Paley-Phillips and Daly’s own ‘blank’ moments. They said: “We are so excited to see this book come to life, we realised early into the process of recording the podcast that there was a huge amount of scope on what a ‘blank’ moment means to each individual and that a book could expand on the things we’ve learned about ourselves as well as from our incredible guests along the way.”

Blank: Why it’s fine to falter and fail, and how to pick yourself up again by Giles Paley-Phillips and Jim Daly will be published by Quadrille on 18th March 2021.
