Learning the art of digital illustration

Hello folks! I can’t believe it’s over a month since I posted on here. There seems to have been so much going on lately, what with the festive season and trips to Lisbon, etc. But if you’re interested in all that, you can check out my Grey Brunette lifestyle blog. As for my creative life, I’m excited to share that I’ve just started learning the art of digital illustration.

I’m now the proud owner of an iPad Pro (my birthday present from hubby) and have downloaded the Procreate app in order to create art digitally. It’s completely new to me and I’m super excited to see how my basic skills develop over time. If you’re a regular reader, you’ll know that I’ve been creating my own book covers for a few years, and more recently began creating them for others. You can see all the pre-made covers currently available on my Covers by Suzy page. For the covers, I tend to use photographs I’ve taken myself, or from stock photography sites such as Dreamstime, Shutterstock or Deposit Photos. I’ve also used illustrations from the same sites. However, I’m hoping to become good enough to illustrate the covers myself at some stage! Watch this space!

In order to learn digital illustration, I’ve started a couple of courses on Udemy. One for digital illustration on programmes like Photoshop and the other for Procreate, which I started earlier this week. And I must say, I was sucked in immediately! I’m having so much fun with it. Here’s my first full illustration…

Not bad, eh? It was very much a step by step process so I can’t take complete credit, but I loved doing it and the result surprised me. I can’t wait to learn more! I’ve also joined numerous Facebook groups about digital illustration which continue to amaze me. It’s quite funny that I never really considered myself to be much of a creative until my friend’s pointed out that I am completely creative LOL. I think I’m just a bit of a moron sometimes he he he. Anyway, I hope you’ll continue to stop by every now and again to follow my creative process. It’s gonna be such fun! Bye for now!
