The long black dress: cute with pumps and a denim waistcoat

Long black dress

Last year I bought this long black dress from Massimo Dutti and I think I’ve only worn it once. It was whilst driving to the UK last winter, in one of the Spanish hotels. I think I teamed it with ankle boots and then dressed it up for dinner. Last week, however, I suddenly thought the long black dress would look really cute with my floral FILA pumps and denim waistcoat – both of which were bought this summer. I’d prefer it if the waistcoat was a little more fitted, less boxy perhaps, but it did the job 🙂

On this occasion, we had friends staying with us for the weekend and were heading out for a bite to eat at a local restaurant so I figured something casual would be a good bet. I was quite pleased with the result, actually. The dress looked great with the pumps and I was super comfy – which is always a plus, right?!

Location

Always on the look out for different settings to take photos, I opted to lean against our old Toyota MR2, which has been in the family since new (1991!). Michael started messing about and insisted I lay across it. So I duly did 😉

He does crack me up sometimes! I often look so moody in photos, when I’m really not. Honest!

But back to the long black dress. It’s not the kind of dress that can be worn during the summer months here in the Algarve because it’s way too hot 🙁 In July, August and most of September, you need soft floaty fabrics or at least tops and dresses that are sleeveless.

I reckon this would get a lot more wear if I lived in the UK though – with cardigans and jackets of course! Not only does it look great with pumps, but it does look cute with boots – either ankle length or knee highs (my favourite).

Do you have a favourite long black dress that you can dress down like this? What do you wear with yours?

I used to have a long black dress…where did I put it?

It’s good that you’re a compliant model. That whole laying on cars thing and looking comfortable is tough 😉

You look so cute and like you are having fun in the pictures by the car. I have a very similar dress but in a gray knit, sitting currently on an oline basket and will purchase it. I love how you styled this with the Pumas. And ahh I miss Massimo Dutti from when I lived in Europe. =)

Come share your awesome style with me on my Thursday Linkup, Suzy. A brand-new one is live this week, pretty lady. I’d love for you to join it. Thank you and have a great weekend!
