Fab40s New York Fashion Week inspiration

The Inspiration? New York Fashion Week

The Fab 40’s is a group of five fashion bloggers from around the globe. Each month we choose a different theme and invite a guest blogger who is also in their 40’s to join us. This group’s goal is to take on style trends and show how we each interpret and incorporate them into our own lives. With five widely varied views, you are certain to find something that speaks to you each month and encourages you to continue to have fun with fashion after the age of 40.

This month, the theme was to dress using inspiration from New York Fashion Week. Admittedly, I had absolutely no idea what I would wear. I mean, New York Fashion Week? How could I possibly fit in? So I Googled NYFW to get some inspiration, and ended up with this:

Classy and casual

I knew straight away that I wanted to wear something really dressy combined with elements that were much more casual (I love the juxtaposition of outfits like these!). I bought this skirt in the Massimo Dutti sale a couple of months ago and I’ve been dying for the opportunity to wear it. Isn’t it gorgeous? It’s super slinky and satiny. I don’t usually like wearing skirts or dresses that are bias cut but this one was different and I simply had to have it.

A few weeks ago, Michael and I went to the Designer Outlets in Faro and I spotted these trainers in the Asics shop. He’s obsessed with Asics trainers and has several pairs but I hadn’t seen any that were very me…until now. I instantly knew they had to be mine lol. They’re a bit witchy, right?

This summer, I discovered this lovely vest from Intimissimi. It’s actually got a bra attached which makes it the perfect summer top. In fact, I loved it so much that I ordered two more. I bought a black one, a navy one and a grey one. Oh….make that three more lol. I’ve got a white one too lol!

Leather and fur

You’ll probably recognise my black leather jacket from Massimo Dutti that I’ve worn tonnes of times on the blog. I figured it was the perfect addition to my New York Fashion Week inspired outfit (especially with it’s fabulous detachable fur collar!).

To add even further juxtaposition to the outfit, my camo Kipling bumbag was just what I wanted. Don’t you just love it? I bought it over a year ago to use on holiday (I do love having my hands free!). It doubles up as a cross body bag too, which is a bonus. I’m currently on the look out for a black bumbag, but I’m struggling to find exactly what I want. I’ll keep you posted though 😉

The Bling

And now, the bling… I was gifted this necklace from the Happiness Boutique several years ago, I love that is has an art deco feel to it (one of my fashion favourites). And as for the Swarovski bracelet, there’s a funny story to it. We bought it for Michael’s mum a couple of months ago (for Christmas), we then sent a picture to her husband and he immediately replied, ‘she’s already got it’! lol Anyway, Michael decided that I should have it, and I’m so glad he did, because it’s so beautiful.

Now, let’s see how the other Fab40s interpreted this fun theme…

Shelbee, Shelbee on the Edge

Shelbee and I share a similar vibe this month. She has decided to keep it simple and comfortable with just a bit of her own edge by pairing unlikely components such as a girly bubble gum pink floral midi skirt with combat boots, moto jacket, and slouchy hat. She looks absolutely fabulous in this outfit that is totally her. LOVE IT, Shelbee!

Sheela Goh

Sheela is wearing an outfit that is entirely thrifted and she looks a million dollars. I’m sure if she was at NYFW, she’d be the object of all the photographers! I love everything about  this photo – including the wall art of course!

Ada, Elegance and Mommyhood

I love that Ada has gone full on bling with lots of shine and sparkle – just like her personality! I think she’d fit right in at New York Fashion Week! You look utterly fabulous, Ada!

Daenel, Living Outside the Stacks

Daenel said she struggled with this month’s theme but I would never have guessed that. She says that if she was walking the streets of New York she’d have to make a statement so… Denim Jacket, Statement Tee, Faux Leather Skirt, and Adidas. I think she looks simply stunning and I do love the statement of the tee – Stronger Together. I couldn’t agree more! Beautiful Daenel!
And me…trying to be fabulous LOL!!!!
