Seize the grey (hair)

Grey hair

I published this ‘Seize the grey’ post last year on my suzyturner blog and thought it would be good to re-hash it for The Grey Brunette. It is all about grey, after all…

Whilst going through some of my photos, I noticed this pic and loved how it highlighted all my grey hair. Or should I say, all my silvery whites 😉

If you were a regular reader of my other blog, you’ll already know that I love it when women wholly embrace their natural grey hair as I have. I quit the dye a long time ago. It must be nine or ten years now. I went for the chop and had a pixie cut. I adored it from the very beginning. To be honest, though, there wasn’t an awful lot of grey hair, but it slowly came. And now, at 45, I have loads and I just love them!

I understand that many women just can’t ‘give in’ to the grey. It makes them feel older—or it makes them think they look older. Oddly enough, since I quit the dye, I feel a bit younger than I did before! Probably because I no longer dread the re-growth and have to have it dyed every couple of months (or more). That was the biggest pain in the arse. So when I stopped, I felt liberated. I love my natural hair now—more than I ever did before.

Seize the grey!

I know I’ve talked about all this before—several times, in fact, on the other blog. But I felt like revisiting it right now because we’re all stuck at home (again). We’re all in the same situation. And all those women who obsessively visited the salon every six to eight weeks, now simply can’t. And I bet many are struggling. So I really feel like now is the time to embrace your natural colour and actually see what that colour really is. There are so many women out there that have no idea what colour their hair is beneath all the dye because they’ve been colouring it for so long.

So, I say, ditch the dye. For now, anyway. Don’t even try the DIY dye kits you can get at the supermarket. Reveal your true self. Your true, beautiful self and be liberated. Seize the day—or Seize the Grey as I like to put it! If you click on that link, it’ll take you to my new Seize the Grey Pinterest board which is full of pics of beautiful women with grey hair who don’t give a shit what people think. They love their hair and the way it makes them feel, and that is all that matters! Are you ready to seize the grey with me?

Speaking of hair, check out my latest ‘attempted’ style on Instagram. It was a bit of a disaster lol. My mother-in-law kindly gave me some of her old heated rollers and I’m struggling to get my hair to stay curly. It starts off ok, but then just flops and goes a bit frizzy lol! See my Instagram post here.

Outfit

I’m totally obsessed with jeans and dresses, so I’m predictably wearing them again here! The dress is really old. I bought it from Primark so long ago. The jeans are actually jeggings and the trainers are my favourite pair of Skechers.

The necklace and ring were gifts from my mother-in-law. When I told her my favourite colour is green, she immediately sent me these. Aren’t they gorgeous?
