Go goth or go home

I’m absolutely loving one of the top trends of A/W 2015. The goth look. Vogue calls it Neo-Victorian and it totally speaks to me. Probably because I’ve always been a bit of a closet goth. Black was always my go-to colour, and up until recently, I used to often go a little mad with the black eyeliner. It was only as I started approaching 40 that my hubby casually mentioned one day that he’d like to see me try a more subtle approach with my eyes. I value his opinion immensely: he has great taste (he married me, didn’t he?) and he usually knows what he’s talking about. So I put down my eyeliner and tried something different. I still use the black kohl pencil (of course!) but it’s usually to do a little winged effect on my upper lid.

As for the clothes, I’ll probably always have a little bit of goth in my wardrobe – and if it happens to have a Victorian feel, even better. You can’t go wrong with black lace and ruffles, right? So this season, I’ll be in my element. Although I’m yet to see much of it translate into the clothes on sale where I live – it’s mostly the 70s boho vibe at the moment. I’m hoping it’s on it’s way though. I’ve got a smashing pair of Doc Martens (pictured above) that will look amazing with some of the clothes promised by designers. Plus a load of black victorian-goth style jewellery I’ve collected over the years… I can’t wait to have some more fun clothes to wear with it all.
