Fab40s: Superhero inspired outfits

Superhero inspired

This month it was my turn to choose the theme for the Fab40s style challenge. And for some strange reason, I chose superhero inspired outfits! I know, crazy right? What on earth was I thinking? Clearly my mind wasn’t on earth at the time – it must’ve been on Planet Krypton or something lol! By the way, I just found out that yesterday was ‘Superhero Day’ – such a coincidence!

All month, I struggled to come up with a superhero inspired outfit to wear today. All I knew was that I wanted to wear this necklace (below) AND I wanted to do the superhero pose (above) LOL. Did you know that standing like a superhero is supposed to boost your confidence? Google it and read the findings. It’s really quite fascinating.

I inherited the necklace from hubby’s late stepmother. Isn’t it beautiful? I’ve always thought it had a bit of a Wonder Woman vibe to it, so it seemed like the obvious choice for our crazy theme. So my superhero inspired outfit started with this. Like Jennie (below), I thought about wearing a superhero tee but I couldn’t find one I really liked in the shops. Stradivarius has some at the moment but they’re super wide and I prefer a fitted tee.

Superhero inspired red dress

My 12-year-old neighbour offered to lend me her wonder woman tee-shirt lol. But in the end, I decided on this gorgeous asymmetric red dress which I bought from eBay a couple of months ago. I’d been wanting a red dress for so long but hadn’t found the one. Until this. I just adore it. I love the neckline and the asymmetric hem at the back. Actually, it was the hemline that reminded me of superheroes in the first place. I could totally imagine a sexy Wonder Woman (Gal Gadot) wearing it, can’t you?

As for the boots, I ended up opting for my Massimo Dutti tan ones. I wouldn’t normally team such a summery dress with knee highs but I actually love the look, and I reckon it gives it more of a superhero inspired touch. The Primark tan belt pulled it all together and then, for fun, I added the blue scarf (also from Primark a few years ago – I have it in red too) which works beautifully for a superhero inspired cape LOL.

Hints of blue

Speaking of blue, I wanted to add a little bit more of it to my outfit, so I went full-on blue eye make-up as well as touches of blue nail polish. I simply adore blue mascara. I think it makes everyone’s eyes pop. If you haven’t tried it, you really should. Here are a few pics to show you the effect it has…(please excuse the bad hair – it was very windy!)

Oh, the ring. I almost forgot to mention the ring. This was a gift from my fabulous mother-in-law last year. The moment she gave it to me, I couldn’t help but think of superheroes.

So, there you have it. My superhero inspired outfit that actually turned out pretty cool! It’s definitely something I can see myself wearing out to a party or a dinner. But on this occasion, the denim jacket was needed. That wind was super chilly! Luckily you can’t see the goosebumps on my skin 😉

But that’s enough about my outfit, let’s see how the other gals styled their very own superhero inspired looks…

Shelbee from Shelbee on the Edge

Superhero inspired

As always, Shelbee pulled out all the stops for her outfit and has given us something super fun and sexy. Inspired by Zatanna Zatara from DC Comics circa 1964 whose super power is her magic. Shelbee says that she very often feels quite magical herself so this seemed like the perfect inspiration, and I, for one, LOVE IT! I just love how brave she is and this outfit just proves that. Shelbee, you seriously rock!

Daenel’s superhero is The Crimson Avenger, a character you may know from the late 1930’s. I absolutely love that she decided to imitate him in honor of her dad who was a big comic book fan. How totally awesome is that? Daenel looks absolutely incredible in that suit, right? LOVE it!!

And our fabulous guest this month, Andrea from Living on Cloud Nine

I simply adore Andrea’s take on the superhero challenge. I mean, isn’t this THE most perfect caped jacket you’ve ever seen? It’s utterly gorgeous, just like Andrea herself, who always manages to look so beautifully put together. She’s one of my favourite blogging superheroes!
