Forest nymph: a stylised photoshoot

If you’re a reader of my books, you’ll know how much I love dark urban fantasy. Anything with witchcraft, vampires, magic or the supernatural really floats my boat! And now that I’m developing my photographic skills, I’m loving that I can create images that have the same kind of feel, if you know what I mean? So far though, I’ve only been able to do self portraits. Until now.

Last week, I did my very first stylised photoshoot with my neighbour’s daughter, Cass, and it was such a lot of fun. My best pal also helped by creating the most beautiful headpieces for us to use. She was also the general dogsbody too lol! My theme for the photoshoot was ‘forest nymph’ and, if I do say so myself, I think we nailed it!

I put Cass in a dress from Apricot that was gifted to me a few years ago. And it looked SO much better on her than me lol! Oh well, that’s to be expected these days, I guess. But I thought the dress had a real forest nymph feel to it. Do you see what I mean? To continue with the forest nymph feel, I put green and gold makeup on her. And, because I wanted her eyes to pop, I bought some huge feathered fake lashes which look amazing close up.

We actually took the photos on the plot next door, where we’re planning to build our house (hopefully soon!). There’s a fabulous old oak tree there which was the perfect backdrop for the magical feel I was after. Anyway, it was such a successful photoshoot that we’re planning on doing it regularly over the next few months while Cass is on holidays. So watch this space! We’ve got some great ideas up our sleeves! And I’ve been buying some fun props and clothes to wear (you know how much I love to shop, right!?)
