This week’s Style Imitating Art challenge is inspired by Allegory of Astronomy by Joseph Fratrel—and honestly, what a beautiful piece. It’s soft, a little dreamy, and full of that quiet, celestial energy that I’m always drawn to. Definitely one of those paintings I’d happily have hanging on my wall.
If you’re new here and wondering what on earth Style Imitating Art actually is, it’s a bi-weekly styling challenge where we take inspiration from a piece of art and create an outfit based on it—whether that’s through colour, mood, texture, or just a general feeling. It’s hosted by the lovely Shelbee from Shelbee on the Edge, Salazar from 14 Shades of Grey, and Marsha from Marsha in the Middle. I don’t always manage to join in (life and all that), but when I do, I genuinely love it. My last go was inspired by Whirlpool Frog by Annemieke Mein, which was such a fun one to interpret.

For this look, I decided to go with my black corduroy dungarees—another Vinted find (I mean… at this point, it’s basically a lifestyle). They’re by Halara and new-to-me, but I already had a similar Mango pair and wear them all the time, so I knew these would be a winner too. There’s just something about dungarees that feels easy but still a bit different.

I paired them with my floaty silky blouse, which I’ve worn for SIA before. It’s got that slightly piratey/medieval vibe that always seems to work with these kinds of paintings. A bit romantic, a bit dramatic… but still very wearable.
For shoes, I went with my black Ecco trainers. Not exactly star-studded, which would’ve been perfect, but sometimes you have to work with what you’ve got. And actually, I think they look really good with the dungarees—the slightly pointed shape gives them a bit of structure, which I like.

To bring in that astronomy feel, I added my gold and green star earrings (yes… also from Vinted—no shame). They’re quite subtle, but they tie in nicely with the theme without feeling too costume-y. I finished things off with a simple gold ring and that was me—out in the wind, trying to get a few decent photos!

I have to say, I’m really happy with how this one turned out. It feels like me, but with a little nod to something more ethereal and artistic. That’s always the sweet spot, isn’t it? What do you think—can you see the connection to Allegory of Astronomy?
