Why we love Matcha tea: a powerhouse of antioxidants and vitamins

Matcha teaAs you may or may not know, hubby and I are very much into alternative health and our latest obsession is Matcha tea. Have you tried it? Although I’ve never been a huge fan of green tea, I love Matcha – which is weird because it’s basically very high quality green tea. The difference between the two is that with Matcha, you ingest the whole tea leaf, as opposed to just drinking the water that the leaf has been steeped in.

Whilst we were in the UK and the States recently, we were introduced to Matcha by a friend of ours so we bought a few tins whilst on holiday. And then, when we got home, we were very fortunate to have been gifted a tin of Zen Matcha Tea from The Brilliant Green Company. Comparing the tea from the different companies, it was clear that the Zen Matcha tea was the best. In fact, we loved it so much that we’ve since bought several more tins of the stuff.

Matcha tea

Frequently quoted as being one of the world’s top superfoods, Matcha tea has a whole host of benefits, including:
* Boosts metabolism so aids weight loss
* Powerhouse of antioxidants, vitamins and minerals
* Aids in detoxifying the body
* Helps fight cancer
* Calms the mind and relaxes the body
* Rich in fibre & chlorophyll

Hubby says that he feels like someone has “switched on the lights” whenever he drinks it! He doesn’t drink alcohol, coffee or soft drinks so he’s certainly very in tune with his body. You could say he’s a bit obsessive about it – but in a good way. He’s certainly a good influence to have around. Mostly, anyway 😉

Matcha teaI drink it because I know it’s doing my body some serious good – and I do feel that when I drink it. However, because I have a sweet tooth, I can’t really drink my Matcha tea without sweetening it with a little bit of honey. I also love drinking it with warm coconut / almond or rice milk – which makes it the perfect after dinner drink to have instead of a dessert (I do love a dessert!). I say warm, not hot, because the ideal temperature to achieve the full benefits is between 50 and 60 degrees – this prevents the nutrients from being killed, and gives the perfect flavour too.

Matcha Tea ‘tools’

We actually just bought a new temperature-controlled kettle specifically for our Matcha tea. Like I said, a certain someone here can be a bit OCD lol 😉 We also bought a special mixing bowl and whisk to make the tea too. It helps give the tea that frothiness which is the ideal way of drinking it. But you can just whisk it up with a spoon in a regular bowl to start with.

After trying several different Matcha tea brands, I can honestly say that The Brilliant Green Company is the best. The quality just seems far superior than the others we’ve tried. So I cannot recommend them enough. Why not try it for yourself? Zen Matcha Tea from The Brilliant Green Company.

Although we were gifted a tin of Zen Matcha Tea, this is not a sponsored post and all opinions are my own.
