A to Z Blogging Challenge: T is for Today

Today is all about the now. Not yesterday, not tomorrow… just this moment. And I think that’s something we so often forget. We spend so much time looking back, replaying things, or looking ahead, worrying or planning, that we miss what’s right in front of us. Today is where life is actually happening.

Today I'll chill out

It’s the day where things get done — or don’t — and that’s okay too. It’s the only moment we really have any control over, and yet it’s often the one we pay the least attention to.

Today, for example, has been a very normal kind of day for me. I got out of bed, splashed my face with water, had a nice glass of water, did fifteen minutes of yoga, then enjoyed a cup of coffee with some homemade granola. After that, I took Luna out for a twenty-minute walk, which is always a lovely way to start the day.

Today

Then I popped out in my little car to pick up some soft drinks and a Vinted parcel that was waiting for me, before heading back home to work on blog posts. And once I’ve finished this one, I’ll be hanging out the washing, having a bite to eat for lunch, maybe I’ll sit in the sun and read a bit before I start on my next doll.

Oooh, I haven’t told you about her yet, have I? I did share her on my socials, but I’ll show her on here after this challenge. The next one is going to be a fairy, which I’m quite excited about. But that’s the thing — this is about today.

After I’ve made a start on the fairy, I’ll start thinking about dinner. What to cook, what we feel like eating. I’ll probably have the telly on while I’m cooking, and then we’ll watch something together afterwards. Later on, I’ll head to bed and read a bit more of my current book (I’m on The Morganville Vampires, book three, if you’re interested), and if I remember, I might even do a little gratitude meditation before I go to sleep.

Nothing extraordinary. Nothing particularly life-changing. Just a normal day. And yet… it’s everything.

Because this is where life is. Not in the past, not in the future, but right here, in these small, ordinary moments. The routine, the little tasks, the quiet joys.

It’s easy to overlook them, to think they’re not important enough somehow. But when you really stop and pay attention, there’s something quite special about them.

So today, I’m reminding myself to stay here. To be present in what I’m doing, however small it might seem. To not rush ahead or dwell too much on what’s already been. Because today is enough.

This is something I touch on in my book too — that idea of being present, appreciating the everyday, and not letting life pass by unnoticed. If that resonates, you can find it on Amazon and if you google The Enchanted Midlife by Suzy Turner, you will also find it on numerous other online bookstores (it’s available as an ebook AND a paperback—and in Portuguese too!).
